The Ruhlin Company has been constructing buildings, roads, bridges, dams, and more for over 100 years. It is a family business, founded by the current President and CEO, Jim Ruhlin Jr., great grandfather. At the beginning, the family were masons and laid bricks for a living. John Ruhlin launched a company that would eventually employ around 400 people and build buildings, roads, and bridges we all see or use on a daily basis. It is an incredible legacy!

In the construction world, we need people with special and unique skills to do different jobs, like being a carpenter or electrician. These are important jobs that require a lot of practice to do well. We also need people who can be good leaders. Good leaders ask questions, make sure things are done right, and share their ideas if they know a better way of doing something. Our construction projects are big and important, so we need people who can work well with others because in construction, nothing is done alone – everyone must work together to get the job done.

Our company builds things for customers all over the state of Ohio and the surrounding states. We’ve gotten so busy that we had to open a second office to help us keep up with all our work!

All our work is guided by what our customers want, and many of them care a lot about being good to the environment. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED buildings are designed to be better for the planet. Some customers are ready to spend money on these eco-friendly buildings, and we have experts who are LEED certified. The LEED process helps us build healthy, energy-efficient, and cost-saving buildings. We also recycle as much as we can on a job site, whether its metal, concrete, or other materials. Everything we can recycle helps the environment!

Whenever you build something, there are rules set by the government that you must follow. These rules come from local, state, and federal agencies. We’re also part of construction groups that work with the government. These groups help explain why we do things a certain way and give us helpful advice.

We work with different groups called unions. A union is a group of people who have similar jobs, like carpenters, for example. When we need a carpenter, we ask the carpenters union to help us find one. The union also makes sure the carpenter gets their benefits, like health insurance. We work well with the unions because we make sure everyone has a safe and good place to work. We also have staff who help find the right people to work for our company in our offices.

We want them to enjoy coming to work every day, so we do things to make that happen like having a food truck for lunch and a corn hole tournament to celebrate Independence Day. We care about each person, and everyone on our team is supportive and helps each other.
